I agree with everything that Hans Bader wrote. So, does this mean that student loan forgiveness should be rescinded? Or that equal billions of family court-ordered debt should also be forgiven?

Well, there's a real possibility that his order is beyond his power to issue. If so, student loan forgiveness will be for Congress to address or not as the case may be. As to child support, there are so many problems with that system, it should be scrapped and a new one put in place, beginning with requiring judges to issue orders that the parent can actually pay. That won't happen, but it should. As to actually forgiving child support debt, the reality is that that's done every year. The Administration for Children and Families has long reported that about 40% of current child support debt is uncollectable. And every year, much of it is written off as such. Much of that of course is owed not to the other parent or the child, but to the state.
