In fact, multiple parties promote coalition-building and compromise, while the U.S. government is paralyzed by polarization. The only thing worse than a two party system is Russia's or China's one party system. More parties = better government.
That's more or less what I'm hoping for, but it won't be easy. Unsurprisingly, the two parties have passed laws making the creation of viable third parties extremely difficult. We'll see, but my hope is that this is our best opportunity in a long time for a third party with sufficient financial backing and intelligent leadership to come into being.
